Words seem insufficient to express how thankful we are for the safe arrival of our grandson and that he and his mom are doing so well. Cooper James Shelton was born Friday, May 22 at about 11:30 PM Utah time weighing 6 lbs 11 oz and 19 1/2 inches. I hope I got that close because with all the times zone differences I may not have heard right at 1:30 in the morning when we got the details. We are grateful for technology that allowed us to be a part of this wonderful time in Ruth and Ben's lives. He is so adorable and we long to hold him and let him know how much we love him. His birth has such a interesting beginning when Dr. Young didn't get to be a part of his entry into this world, even though he was in the same building and was on his way. Cooper just decided that he was ready and thank goodness the nurse acted quickly when Ruth said he was coming. Our daughter Naomi is on her way to Utah to be with Ruth and family for a week. It is so comforting knowing our children love each other and fill in for us while we are away.
Even though we get to take the holiday off, we will still go to the office for awhile as we have apartment inspections coming up and we need to call the missionaries tomorrow. We also have the resume information papers to get mailed out for the missionaries going home in July. I have the June resumes done except for two that haven't sent their information back to me. I gave them a call and left a message, so we will see if they respond with only a week left before they go home.
We spoke in the McAllen 1st Ward today and will speak next week in the Edinburg 1st Ward. The focus is Provident Living and Self-Reliance which is not a new principle but one we need to be reminded of once again. We are interesting creatures to have to be taught so often the same things over and over again when they are ultimately for our progress. I am grateful for a patient Heavenly Father.
We went with Elder Mullen and his companion to visit a women they are teaching. She is in a situation where her ex-husband is causing problems by taking two of their children to another state and she hasn't had any success in stopping him. She is a strong faithful women but was very emotionally distraught as we tried to comfort and support her. She seemed to connect with us as we are older, although the missionaries sure have a great spirit about them as they remind her of the love our Savior has for her and give her counsel. We will call her tomorrow to offer our continued support.
We are so grateful for the gospel and find that we have only just begun to learn all that the Lord has for us. Actually we have know this before now, but it has become even more obvious since our mission. We will continue pressing forward.

Congratulations on the new grandbaby! That is awesome! It's also neat to hear about your experience with the troubled lady. How wonderful that you could be of assistance. Surely the Lord is getting his money's worth with you guys!
Cooper is as cute as can be. Tyler,Braden, Tammy and me were able to go visit Ben and Ruth and the little guy on Saturday. Very cute little family.
I am sure glad all is well with mom and baby. I bet he is so handsome and sweet. Grandkids are the best they bring such joy!! I know there had been concern about his arrival and moms health so I am sure your joy is full. Their are so many ways to serve the Lord in his kingdom and it sounds like you both are having many wonderful opportunities to serve in so many ways. I am so proud of both of you and am grateful for your example. I love you!!!!!
